5. Move Over, Darling - cinema - VPRO Gids
Verenigde Staten 1963. Komedie van Michael Gordon. Met o.a. Doris Day, James Garner, Polly Bergen, Thelma Ritter en Fred Clark.

Although most passengers manage to survive the incident, Ellen presumably perishes when swept off her lifeboat, her body never recovered. Fast forward five years. Nicholas, wanting to move on with his life, has Ellen declared legally dead. Part of that moving on includes getting remarried, this time to a young woman named Bianca Steele, who, for their honeymoon, he plans to take to the same Monterrey resort where he and Ellen spent their honeymoon. On that very same day, Ellen is dropped off in Los Angeles by the Navy, who rescued her from the South Pacific island where she was stranded for the past five years. She asks the Navy not to publicize her rescue nor notify Nicholas as she wants to do so herself.

Meanwhile, Ellen returns home and is distressed when her two children fail to recognize her. Learning from Nick's mother that he has just remarried, Ellen proceeds to the honeymoon hotel, where Nick immediately catches a glimpse of her. Still in love with Ellen, Nick feigns a back injury and returns home with Bianca. Ellen flies home and arrives ahead of the newlyweds, pretending to be Nick's masseuse. Nick learns that a man was also stranded with Ellen, but she describes him as small and unappealing. Unknown to Ellen, Nick goes to see this man, who is actually a handsome athlete, while Ellen hires a meek shoeclerk to impersonate him. Afterwards, Nick li
